Keep The Faith is a feature film dealing with Christianity gang violence and the end times.
Timothy Jackson believes in the pleasures that only street life can bring him like, sex, drugs, alcohol, and hanging out at parties with his boys Brick, Shawn, and TY. Involved in only the negative aspects of life, Timothy also neglects his fatherly duties and in his spare time patronizes his girlfriend Tawanna for her recently becoming a Christian. That is until Paul, one of his old high school friends enters back into his life. It’s later revealed that Paul has given up his football scholarship in order to study to become a pastor. Timothy, Brick, Shawn and TY ridicule his passion for Christ. On the night of TY’S birthday, Paul reaches to the very root of TY’S pain in life and helps him to become born again. This infuriates Timothy who at hours before was involved in a drive by and a shootout with Hakim, a violent neighborhood drug dealer. Timothy confronts Paul who admonishes him and convicts him revealing his true reason for leaving his football scholarship and college life behind. Soon after, the rapture occurs leaving Timothy behind and alone with no support. Years later, while trying to escape the military for fear of having to receive the mark, Timothy runs into Brother Daniel who teaches him about the love and salvation that Christ offers. He becomes born again. Timothy’s faith is truly tested when a person from his past captures him and his camp making the final half hour of the film a true testimony of how God’s will comes to pass, and how keeping faith in Christ brings about miracles…
DIRECTOR’S STYLISTIC CHOICES IN REGARDS TO TRANSLATION OF SCRIPT TO SCREENPLAY
As director of “Keep The Faith” I intend on capturing three different moods for the three acts of the film. It will be shot on HD using 2 Canon 5D Mark III cameras with Magic Lantern using Canon Cine Lenses.
Act I will incorporate dark and gritty lighting but will remain edgy. It will be rich in color and somewhat fast paced. There will be a lot of steady-cam movement for the action scenes, crane shots for establishing scenes and a lot of dolly and track movement for dialogue and tension building.
Act II will incorporate some movement but mostly tripod work. There will be crane work but mostly to establish scale of location and beauty of landscape. I will continue to use dolly and track to create dramatic tension during parts of the dialogue that is somewhat wordy. The feel will be upbeat and we will use a lot of soft lighting to establish purification and change especially during the scenes at the Christian camp involving Timothy and Claire.
Act III will have a mixture of light and dark mood lighting. There will be lots of the use of shadows. Many of the most violent scenes will be cheated as to not be too graphic for the viewing audience. There will still be use of crane dolly and some steady cam. We will also be using CGI and Matte Painting for several scenes in the third act.
IS THERE A NEED FOR THIS FILM?
There is definitely a need of this type of film. Christianity has been very successful in helping those in moral dilemmas in the past such as faith based programs like AA that give people alternative ways to find peace, salvation and hope for their lives. A film such as “Keep The Faith” has never been made in such edginess and rawness such as to touch the youth of today.
WHY IS THIS FILM DIFFERENT?
Many films may have touched on the topic but very few have serviced the youth of the urban market such as this film will. This film gives people an understanding of redemptive quality and integrity, something which is desperately needed and unfortunately missing in the hip hop influenced culture of today.
WHO DOES THIS FILM REACH & SERVE?
“Keep The Faith” will serve all those who may have experienced gang hostility in their communities as well as help to bring people out of gangs by promoting what positive transformations are like for those who come to Christian faith as a means of life support.
Churches and youth organizations would be able to use this film as a valuable tool for gang deterrence. The target audiences are young men and women who are in conflict of morality issues as well as those who have lost hope in life and feel as if their direction is misguided.
APPROPRIATION OF KEEP THE FAITH
“Keep The Faith” is more appropriate for television due to the fact that it will reach a wide and more willing audience. There is no cursing, swearing, foul language or sexual overtones in the film thereby opening the door for it to be suitable for most ages. Making the film readily accessible allows community and program heads to keep costs at a low in regards to public showing and for those who are involved in low income situations.
